KUALA LUMPUR: The family of a man killed in the fallen tree incident near Jalan Tun Razak last Saturday is entitled to lifelong benefits from the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) as he has been an active contributor to the Self-Employment Social Security Scheme (LINDUNG Kendiri).
PERKESO said in a statement today that the renewal of the late Mohd Amir Shazwan Saion’s LINDUNG Kendiri contribution in February this year entitles his wife, Zam Zureena Mohd Rani, to receive the Dependant’s Benefit (FOT) in the form of a monthly pension of RM837 for life.
It said Zam Zureena, a research officer, will also receive the Funeral Benefit (FPM), a one-off payment of RM3,000, to assist with the burial arrangements for her late husband in his hometown of Batu Pahat, Johor.
PERKESO said the deceased’s foresight in maintaining social protection while earning a living as a hired-car driver ensured that his family’s welfare would continue to be safeguarded after his passing.
“The incident occurred after the deceased had dropped off a passenger at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). It is understood that he was on his way to return the company’s rented vehicle in Datuk Keramat before heading home to Cheras,” the statement said.
PERKESO said the tragedy, which occurred following heavy rain, underscored the importance of protection under the LINDUNG 24 Hours Scheme.
The statement said the introduction of the scheme reflected the MADANI Government’s continued commitment to safeguarding workers’ welfare and safety not only while they were working or commuting, but at all times.
Since the scheme came into effect on June 1, PERKESO has recorded an average of 32 benefit claims daily involving accidents occurring outside working hours, including weekends and public holidays.
“Accidents can happen at any time. Therefore, the MADANI Government wants the people to understand that LINDUNG 24 Hours can serve as a lifeline for families by ensuring that their source of income, especially that of the breadwinner, is not disrupted in the event of a tragedy,” it added. – BERNAMA
