KUCHING: A family with a sick 21-month-old son needs help.
Fahim Fathurrahman Mohammad Sait was diagnosed with dysmorphism — a condition characterised by abnormal body structure that may affect physical and mental development. The toddler resides in Taman Serapi Jaya, Matang with his parents and four older siblings.
Despite appearing like a typical active toddler, Fahim relies entirely on tube feeding through his stomach as he is unable to swallow food or liquids orally.
The child underwent intestinal surgery in September though doctors remain uncertain about his long-term prognosis.
According to his mother, Sarah Syukriyah, 36, Fahim frequently experiences breathing difficulties and requires immediate medical attention when he develops common ailments such as fever or cough.
Daily care routines, including dressing the feeding tube site after baths, cause the child considerable distress.
“It breaks my heart to see him in pain every day,” Sarah said. “After his recent surgery, he cries whenever I need to dress his stomach area.”
The family’s financial situation has become increasingly strained. Fahim’s father, Mohammad Sait, 40, works as a courier service driver earning minimum wage. Sarah, formerly a sales agent, became a full-time caregiver after Fahim’s birth.
With four school-going children and mounting medical expenses, the family struggles to make ends meet.
Fahim received one-time financial assistance from Baitulmal in January and the family has recently applied for social welfare aid.
Hope Place Kuching has stepped in to provide special milk supplements, baby diapers and school supplies for the siblings.
