SIBU: A workers’ quarters was destroyed in a fire on Sunday (Sept 20) night.
Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said it received a call at 8.13pm on a fire incident located behind a hill near Satria Timur,
A team from the Sungai Merah fire station was dispatched to the scene, located about 15 km away.
“Upon arrival at 8.29pm, the team found that the fire involved a non-permanent workers’ quarters structure measuring approximately 60 by 20 feet.
“The structure was estimated to be 98 per cent destroyed by the flames,” it said in a statement.
Firefighters, equipped with full protective gear and breathing apparatus, laid out a 300-foot hose line utilising two nozzles fed by a nearby fire hydrant to combat the inferno from both sides of the building.
No casualties or injuries were reported as no one was inside the premises during the incident, and details regarding the owner could not be immediately established.
