KUCHING: Two blocks of workers’ quarters were destroyed in a fire near a condominium in Tabuan Heights yesterday (Jul 14).
Firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading to neighbouring homes.
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported after the blaze broke out at around 6.55pm.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the non-permanent workers’ quarters were believed to have been occupied by three foreign nationals. However, none of them were at the premises when the fire occurred.
Firefighters from Tabuan Jaya, Batu Lintang and Padungan stations responded to the scene, where they found two blocks had been completely destroyed while a third block sustained about 30 per cent damage.
The flames were extinguished using water from the fire engines, while firefighters also carried out a fire break operation to prevent the flames from spreading to the neighbouring housing area.
The fire was brought under control at 7.34pm before the team carried out overhaul operations to eliminate any remaining hotspots.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operation at 10.44pm.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
