MIRI: Heavy rain on Friday night caused several low-lying areas in the city centre to be flooded.
Among the affected areas was the Miri Central Fire Station at the Jalan Miri-Pujut.
Early this month, the fire station was also inundated by floodwaters due to flash floods caused by incessant heavy rain.
Footage on social media showed water pouring into the fire station from the main road, submerging the entire premises with knee-deep flood waters.
The situation halted the station’s flood monitoring operation.
Meanwhile, personnel from the Lopeng Fire Station have carried out flood monitoring at several low-lying areas in Senadin, Kuala Baram and Pujut.
In Batu Niah, firemen from the Batu Niah Fire Station were deployed to KM18 Jalan Pantai Miri-Bintulu to help remove two utility poles that had fallen onto the road.
According to Miri Fire and Rescue Department’s Supt Law Poh Kiong, the firemen were despatched to the location in response to an emergency alert at 7.11pm.
They successfully cleared the road around 7.38 pm.
