Five drug abuse suspects detained

KUCHING: Sixteen men were detained by the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) in two separate operations conducted on Saturday.

A spokesperson for the agency said they were detained during a joint operation carried out in Kuching and Serian divisions.

During a road block operation carried out along Jalan Matang, Kuching from 8pm to 11pm, the agency detained 11 men aged between 20 and 40 after they  tested positive for syabu and methamphetamine.

The 11 were however released after their statements were recorded and bailed out by their respective families and AADK.

In another road block operation conducted in Serian by personnel from the Road Transport Department, five men were detained after they tested positive for syabu and methamphetamine.

The five will be investigated under Section 3(1) of the Drug Addicts, Treatment and Rehabilitation Act,1983 pending pathology lab results from the Sarawak General Hospital to determine whether they will be detained under Puspen or undergo a two-year supervision programme.
