SIBU: Five students from University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) have been chosen as recipients of the fourth cohort of the Mitsubishi Corporation Kuala Lumpur (MC KUL) International Scholarship.
The selection reflects the organisation’s ongoing commitment to advancing education and strengthening human capital development in Sarawak.
UTS’ Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ir Dr Mohammad Shahril Osman, said the scholarship not only helps ease the financial burden of students but also serves as an important platform in shaping their academic and professional success.
According to him, a total of 20 UTS students have benefitted from the initiative to date, with some of the previous recipients achieving outstanding success in academics and their respective careers.
“The achievements of past recipients prove that the education and support provided can transform students’ lives towards a better future,” he said.
Shahril said this in his speech at the MC KUL International Scholarship presentation ceremony held at the UTS campus on Thursday (May 21).
He also mentioned that financial challenges remain one of the main issues faced by university students in Sarawak despite the state government introducing various educational initiatives, including the Sarawak Free Tertiary Education Scheme (FTES) and other student assistance programmes.
He explained that scholarships such as MC KUL are highly significant in helping students focus fully on their studies and actively participate in campus life without being burdened by financial stress.
The five students who received the scholarship are Abigail Hii Beng Ching, Charles Sibat Frederick Ganing, Karen Kho Yen Sing, Irene Ling Hsin Yi, and Wendy Teong We Teng.
