MIRI: A total of 100 families in Long Bemang, Long Bedian District received aid from the Sarawak Sabah Link Road Phase 2 (SSLR2) master contractor, Maltimur Aktif Unggul JV (MAUJV), following recent flooding in the area.
The assistance was delivered on Friday after continuous rainfall, combined with a king tide on Dec 14 caused floodwaters to rise in the village, prompting more than 550 residents to move furniture and essential items to higher levels of their homes.
Long Bemang, a remote settlement along the Baram River, is among several inland communities in northern Sarawak that are prone to recurring floods during prolonged heavy rain.
In previous incidents, floodwaters have reached up to 1.8 feet.
MAUJV project teams were on site to distribute food supplies and other essential items to affected residents.
Village representatives Misel Wan, Vicau Lawai and Nur Melati received the contributions on behalf of the community during a handover session.
Residents expressed their appreciation for MAUJV’s timely assistance and voiced hopes for continued collaboration with the company in addressing challenges faced by the community.
In recent weeks, MAUJV and its contractors have been actively supporting communities affected by frequent flooding around the SSLR2 project in northern Sarawak as part of ongoing community outreach efforts.
