MARUDI: Five areas in Marudi District remain inundated following continuous heavy rain and high tides since January 25.
According to a report from the Marudi Civil Defence Force (APM), the affected locations are Rumah Dasu, Sungai Tisam Bukit Nyaming – floodwaters reaching 10 feet ; Rumah Gerang, Sungai Bakong – 9½ feet ; Kampung Melayu Bakong – 2½ feet; Rumah William Saba, Sungai Bakong – 6½ feet and Kampung Setinggan Bakong – 1½ feet
APM Marudi personnel have been deployed to monitor the situation and provide assistance where necessary.
Two temporary evacuation centres (PPS) have been opened to accommodate displaced residents.
SMK Bakong, which has been operational since February 6, is currently sheltering 65 evacuees, while the Beluru Community Hall, opened on February 1, is housing 147 individuals as of 4 pm on Sunday.
Water levels remain high, and the weather remains overcast.
Authorities have urged residents to stay vigilant, monitor water levels closely, and evacuate if conditions worsen.
Despite the ongoing flooding, the situation is reported to be under control.
