MUKAH: A couple here, believed to be involved in drug distribution activities at a local hotel, was arrested by police early this morning.
Mukah District Police Chief, DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias, said the arrests were made following a tip-off which led the district’s Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) to conduct a raid on the hotel concerned.
The raid took place at 1:00 am today (May 22) where the team apprehended a 29-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman in a hotel room.
“Both suspects are foreigners and they were allegedly involved in drug distribution activities.
“Upon further investigation inside the hotel room, the team found 40 transparent tubes and nine packets believed to be containing methamphetamine which were inside a small bag,” he said.
The police seized the drugs which roughly weigh around 33.45 grammes worth RM1,700. Also seized were RM932 in cash.
Rizal said the suspects tested negative for drugs during a urine screening test.
The case is being investigated under Section 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.
Police have also opened an investigation paper under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 against the male suspect for possessing invalid travel documents.
