KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak’s Transitioning Industrial Clusters (TIC) initiative, anchored in the Bintulu–Samalaju industrial corridor, has secured the participation of more than 25 companies and identified four pilot projects to accelerate the state’s low-carbon industrial transformation.
Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni said the initiative is expected to strengthen Bintulu and Samalaju as an integrated low-carbon industrial ecosystem while reinforcing Sarawak’s position as a regional hub for clean energy, green petrochemicals and hydrogen-based industries.
“The Sarawak TIC cluster is anchored in the Bintulu–Samalaju industrial corridor, with more than 25 companies on board and four pilot projects already identified,” he said while speaking as a panellist at the Unlocking Capital for Sustainability Malaysia 2026 (UCFS 2026): Financing Growth for a Resilient Economy seminar at ParkRoyal Collection Kuala Lumpur yesterday (July 23).
Dr Hazland said the initiative, launched in June this year, is projected to contribute about RM12 billion annually to Malaysia’s gross domestic product (GDP) and create nearly 19,000 jobs by 2040.
He said the programme is part of Sarawak’s commitment to the World Economic Forum’s Transitioning Industrial Clusters initiative, with the Bintulu–Samalaju region becoming the first Malaysian cluster under the global platform.
“The Sarawak TIC is a federal–state partnership led by Sarawak’s Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability as the lead convener supported by MyDIGITAL Corporation together with the World Economic Forum.
“Designed as a key platform to accelerate clean energy adoption, digital innovation and low-carbon industrial development, the TIC initiative leverages Sarawak’s rich renewable resources and mature petrochemical base.”
He added that the programme supports Sarawak’s aspiration to achieve net-zero carbon emissions while strengthening its role in Malaysia’s green economy.
Dr Hazland also called for stronger collaboration between the public and private sectors to unlock sustainable investment and drive innovation in the state’s industrial development.
The one-day event brought together policymakers, financiers and industry leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region to discuss strategies for mobilising capital to support sustainable and resilient economic growth.
