KUCHING: Four areas in Sarawak recorded hazardous air quality as the Air Pollutant Index (API) rose above 300 in several parts of the state as of noon today (Aug 30).
According to the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Sarawak, Serian recorded the highest reading at 412, followed by Samarahan at 332, Tebedu at 302 and Kuching at 304.
All four areas were classified as hazardous under the API scale.
Meanwhile, several other areas record very unhealthy air quality, including Lubok Antu at 243, Lundu (236) and Sri Aman (228).
Sarikei records an API of 197, followed by Sibu (190), Bintulu (183), Mukah (176), Samalaju (175), Kapit (161), Miri (159) and ILP Miri (156), all classified as unhealthy.
Limbang records a moderate API reading of 97, while Lawas and Bario record unhealthy readings of 114 and 121, respectively.
The latest readings reflect the worsening haze situation across several parts of Sarawak, with Kuching, Samarahan, Serian and Tebedu now recording API levels above the hazardous threshold.
