KUCHING: The Kuching Division Journalists Association (KDJA), in collaboration with Borneo Medical Centre (BMC) Kuching, is offering free medical screening to its members as part of its welfare initiatives.

The inaugural programme, made possible through a special allocation from the Prime Minister’s Department, has drawn 112 participants.

Under the package, registered KDJA members will receive free screening covering basic tests such as blood pressure, blood glucose and cholesterol, Body Mass Index (BMI) analysis, a 64-profile blood test and consultation with a medical doctor.

KDJA president Ronnie Teo Teck Wei expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for supporting the project, which allows media practitioners to prioritise their health despite the demanding nature of their profession.

“We thank the Prime Minister for valuing the well-being of the press and empowering us to continue our work with strength and dedication,” he said.

Teo also extended appreciation to BMC for tailoring a comprehensive package that addresses the needs of media professionals, describing the partnership as a model of effective collaboration between the public and private sectors.

“The quality of our media is a direct reflection of the well-being of our journalists. When media members are burnt out or dealing with health issues, it can impact their focus, accuracy and overall performance.

“By proactively addressing health concerns through this special health check-up, KDJA hopes to help its members sustain long and fulfilling careers. We look forward to continuing this programme in years to come as an incentive for our media members,” he added.

Apart from the initiative, KDJA also provides welfare support to its members during times of need, including accidents, hospitalisation, weddings and childbirth.
