KUCHING: Persons with disabilities across five divisions in southern Sarawak will have access to free prosthetic limbs under a charity programme jointly organised by nine Moral Uplifting societies.

The initiative covers Kuching, Samarahan, Serian, Sri Aman and Betong, with applicants required to undergo foot measurements before customised prosthetic moulds are made.

According to a statement, measurement sessions will be held from 9 am to 3 pm at the Sarawak Shengfa Church Charity Society Hall, Jalan Stutong here, on Sept 27.

A second session will take place at the Che Chuan Khor Moral Uplifting Society hall in Sri Aman from 9 am to 3 pm on Oct 4.

Prosthetic moulding for applicants from Kuching, Samarahan and Serian will be conducted at the Chai Tze Kin Auditorium of SJK Chung Hua No. 2, Jalan Stutong Baru here, on Oct 11.

The session for Sri Aman and Betong applicants will be held at the Che Chuan Khor premises on Oct 10, while the fitting and installation exercise is expected to take place about six weeks later.

The programme, first introduced by Che Hui Khor in 2011 and revived in 2023, will receive technical and prosthetic services from Ming Ya Shang Ge Yayasan Sosial Moral Sejati Surya Gamilang of Jakarta, Indonesia.

The organisers are also seeking public and corporate donations to cover the production of the prosthetic limbs and the Jakarta technical team’s travel expenses.

Interested applicants may contact Irene Yong at 019-816 2822, Donna Goh at 014-208 0072 or the Che Hui Khor office at 082-363 732 for details.
