BAU: Eighty-one banners advertising suspected unlicensed money lending services were removed in a joint operation aimed at curbing the spread of illegal lending activities yesterday (Sept 9).
The operation, codenamed ‘Ops Vulture’, was carried out by the district Commercial Crime Investigation Division (CCID) together with Bau District Council.
Bau police said the banners were taken down from several locations across the district, including areas around Bau town.
Police said the operation formed part of ongoing enforcement efforts to curb illegal moneylending activities and prevent unlicensed lenders from openly advertising their services.
The joint action also aimed to maintain a safer, more orderly environment in the district.
Members of the public have been advised to steer clear of unlicensed money lenders, warning that borrowers could be exposed to intimidation, harassment and scams.
Instead, police advised those in need of financial assistance to seek services only from financial institutions or money lenders that are legally registered and authorised to operate.
