KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) will hold a free anti-rabies vaccination, licensing, microchipping and subsidised neutering programme for dogs at Tabuan Jaya this Saturday (May 9).

MBKS said on their Facebook page that the programme will be held at Mayor Song Swee Guan Park from 8.30am to 4.30pm.

Dog owners attending the programme will be able to obtain free anti-rabies vaccinations, dog licensing and microchipping services for their pets.

A RM150 subsidy will also be provided for neutering dogs aged above six months to encourage better pet population management and reduce the number of stray animals.

The subsidised neutering programme, however, is limited to the first 100 dogs already licensed and vaccinated under MBKS.

Members of the public are advised to bring along their identity card as well as their pet’s vaccination card, if available, during registration.

Rabies remains a public health concern in Sarawak, with local authorities continuing to intensify vaccination and awareness campaigns to prevent the spread of the disease.

MBKS has urged dog owners to play their role by ensuring their pets are vaccinated, licensed and properly cared for in order to help create a safer environment for both animals and the community.

The council added that public cooperation is important in supporting efforts to control rabies and promote responsible pet ownership practices across the city.
