MIRI: A total of 1,528 welfare recipients in Miri Division received special Gawai Dayak contributions from the government this year.

Of the total, 150 recipients were honoured at an event during the ‘Majlis Sejambak Kasih Hari Gawai Dayak Miri 2026’ EVENT held at Dynasty Hotel today, where each received RM100 in cash assistance.

Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, said the initiative aims to ease the financial burden of festive preparations.

“Out of the total, 150 recipients present today each received RM100 while another 100 recipients will receive the same assistance at a separate event in Bekenu on May 25.

“The remaining 1,278 recipients will receive the aid through direct crediting into their respective bank accounts,” she said.

In total, RM152,800 has been allocated for the Gawai Dayak assistance this year, underscoring the government’s continued support for the underprivileged.

Dynasty Hotel also contributed food hampers worth RM150 each to the 150 attendees, amounting to RM22,500 in corporate donations.

Meanwhile, from January to April 2026, the Miri Division Social Welfare Office disbursed RM9.18 million in monthly aid to 4,803 recipients under various welfare schemes.
