GOF crushes illegal logging op, seizes 85 logs and nabs three locals

SARATOK: The General Operations Force (GOF) has dismantled an illegal logging operation with the seizure of 85 logs of various types yesterday (Feb 19).

Codenamed ‘Ops Taring Libas’, the raid was conducted by the GOF 23rd Battalion’s Intelligence Branch at around 9.30 am at a location in Saratok.

Sarawak GOF Brigade commander SAC Dr Che Ghazali Che Awang said three local men, aged between 36 and 56, were arrested during the operation.

“Further inspections led to the seizure of 85 logs of various types and six vehicles at the scene.

“The total seizure is valued at around RM3,223,000, according to market price,” he said in a statement.

Che Ghazali added that the suspects and seizures were handed over to the Sarawak Forest Department Sri Aman Branch for further action.

The case is being investigated under the Sarawak Forests Ordinance 2015.
