KUCHING: The General Operations Force (GOF) has seized 36,178kg of frozen chicken and beef worth RM1.6 million from two premises yesterday (Feb 19).
Sarawak GOF Brigade commander SAC Dr Che Ghazali Che Awang said the ‘Op Taring Bravo 3’ raids, conducted by the brigade’s Intelligence branch, took place at around 9.30 am in Padawan and Kota Samarahan.
The premises were suspected to have been turned into illegal storage facilities for importing and keeping livestock without valid permits.
“Five locals, comprising three women and two men, aged between 23 and 55, were arrested in the raids.
“Thorough inspections also revealed 36,178kg of frozen chicken and beef stored across both premises. The team also seized two containers and three vehicles,” he said.
Che Ghazali added that the seizure value of frozen livestock in Padawan amounted to RM438,750, while the seizure value in Kota Samarahan totalled up to RM1,163,750.
This puts the total seizure from both raids at RM1,602,500, based on market prices.
The suspects and seizures were handed over to the Sarawak Veterinary Department for further action.
The case is being investigated under the Section 9(1)(3) of the Veterinary Public Health Ordinance 1999.
From Jan 1 to Feb 19, the Sarawak GOF Brigade recorded enforcement success worth RM153 million, involving 61 cases, 130 arrests, and the seizure of 70 vehicles.
