KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) backbenchers are prepared to strengthen grassroots engagement and defend the Sarawak government’s development agenda ahead of the coming state election.
Backbenchers Club chairman and chief political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, said backbenchers had been actively working on the ground since the last election and would continue to explain government initiatives and achievements to the people.
He said this while speaking at the GPS Backbenchers Night attended by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Pullman Hotel on Wednesday night (May 20).
“We are ready to go down to the grassroots to explain what has been implemented by the GPS government and continue serving the rakyat.”
Fazzrudin also reminded members to remain united and focused in the face of political attacks and misinformation.
“We must stay united and focus on the larger agenda brought by the Premier for Sarawak’s future.”
He also highlighted growing international recognition towards Sarawak’s green economy agenda under the leadership of the Premier.
Additionally, he said the Premier was recognised as a “pace setter in Asia for a green economy”, referring to remarks made by Temasek Trust chairperson Ho Ching.
“This shows that the world is paying attention to Sarawak and recognising the leadership shown by our Premier.”
He added that Sarawak’s development agenda should not be disrupted by divisive issues, stressing the importance of ensuring that the state’s long-term plans and policies continue to benefit the rakyat.
