KUCHING: The State Banquet, held in honour of the Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, in conjunction with his 79th official birthday, was celebrated with grandeur and traditional ceremonies at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex last night.
Wan Junaidi together with his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, was welcomed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his daughter, Dayang Norjihan.
The evening began with a Zapin Melayu Sarawak dance performance by the Sarawak Arts Council, showcasing the grace and cultural richness of the state’s Malay heritage, followed by a special prayer recited by the Grand Imam of Sarawak, Sahibul Fadilah Dato Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi, praying for blessings and the well-being of the Governor.
The highlight of the night was the birthday cake-cutting ceremony for the Governor, witnessed by Fauziah, Abang Johari and other distinguished guests.

A special tribute video was also screened, chronicling Wan Junaidi’s life journey, contributions and dedication to the people, particularly his instrumental role in strengthening Sarawak’s position, especially through his efforts related to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
The evening continued with musical performances by local artists, including Bob Yusuf, Jali, Nur Hijrah Yahya and Mal Imran, who entertained the guests with songs themed around unity and love for the State.
Before the event concluded, guests were treated to a vibrant fireworks display, bringing the meaningful night to a close in a festive and respectful atmosphere.
Also in attendance were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof, Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Sarawak Cabinet Ministers, State Secretary Datuk Amar Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Ministers, and other dignitaries.
