PETALING JAYA: The “H 1” vehicle registration number has fetched a whopping RM10,777,777, the highest bid under the special “H” series introduced in conjunction with Malaysia Day.
The Transport Ministry said the series recorded total bids of RM91.2 million, along with RM1.94 million in service fees, during the bidding period from Sept 16 to 20.
A total of 34,664 bidders participated, with 8,223 registration numbers successfully taken up.
“H 9” recorded the second-highest bid at RM4,969,999, followed by “H 3” at RM4,209,777 and “H 5” at RM4,007,777.
Meanwhile, “H 8” fetched RM4 million, “H 6” RM3.38 million, “H 2” RM3.18 million and “H 7” RM3.1 million.
The most hotly contested numbers were “H 1001” and “H 100”, which attracted 37 bidders each.
“H 1805” drew 36 bidders, while “H 1777” and “H 4818” attracted 32 bidders each.
The ministry said proceeds from the special series would be channelled towards programmes under the ministry and Road Transport Department (RTD), including road safety initiatives.
Although the “H” prefix has traditionally been associated with taxis, RTD had previously clarified that taxi registrations combine the letter with a state registration prefix, such as “HP” for taxis in Penang.
The department said the standalone “H” was chosen to represent “harmony” in conjunction with Malaysia Day and is the last single-letter series planned for bidding.
