KOTA SAMARAHAN: There are currently no plans to develop a motocross facility at Halaman Samarahan, as efforts remain focused on maximising the venue’s use as a multi-purpose community and event space.

Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development, Datuk Rubiah Wang, said while motocross facilities already exist elsewhere, the priority is to complete essential infrastructure that will support a wider range of programmes and recreational activities.

“We want to maximise the use of this space because we have identified its potential to host programmes and sporting activities that can benefit more people.

“There are already motocross venues in other areas. If there are proposals to upgrade the existing motocross track in future, we can certainly consider them,” she told reporters after officiating at the launch of ‘Tapak Halaman Samarahan’ today.

Rubiah said the venue is also envisioned as a space that reflects Samarahan’s identity and history, including its agricultural heritage, while providing facilities that appeal to younger generations.

She added that automotive exhibitions and similar events could be organised at the site, but more challenging motorsport tournaments would require additional infrastructure before they can be hosted safely.

Responding to whether the next development phase would include levelling the existing motocross area, Rubiah said the site has been separated from the ‘Halaman Samarahan’ project as the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) has its own plans for the area.
“For now, we are concentrating on completing the front portion because there have been many requests from youths for open spaces where sports and community activities can be organised,” she said.

Rubiah said future improvements at Halaman Samarahan will continue to prioritise facilities that encourage greater community participation while supporting large-scale public events.
