LUNDU: Heavy rain that lashed the Lundu waterfront in the afternoon eased just in time for the marquee Bidar 30 paddlers’ final.
The crowds who had waited it out were rewarded with a tight finish for the King of the Batang Kayan River title.
Landas Saga Sebuyau held off the field to take the title in 7 minutes and 28 seconds, followed by Bujang Sigat in 7:33, and Landas Cahaya Helang Tasik in 7:36.
The race was observed by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Santubong MP Datuk Nancy Shukri and Tanjong Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan, the co-patron of the regatta’s main organising committee, at the grandstand before they presented the awards to the winners.
Azizul said the Regatta Batang Kayan served as a warm-up event ahead of the Sarawak Regatta, which is scheduled for the end of October.
As champion, Landas Saga Sebuyau walked away with a cash prize of RM20,000 and the champion trophy while runner up and second runner up brought home RM10,000 and RM6,000 with trophies respectively.
