LUNDU: Development in the Santubong parliamentary constituency’s tourism belt will be anchored on six pillars, covering infrastructure, human capital, socioeconomic growth, community wellbeing, youth and volunteerism, and spiritual and values development.
Women, Family and Community Development Minister, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, said the six-pronged approach is meant to prepare communities in the constituency – spanning Telok Melano, Sematan, Lundu, Santubong, Damai, Buntal and Bako up to Muara Tebas – ahead of upcoming development.
She said planning must be comprehensive and tailored to the needs of each area, particularly in terms of infrastructure and socioeconomic readiness, before opportunities are taken up elsewhere.
“This is comprehensive. We want to ensure everything is delivered, implemented and achieved,” she said.
She was speaking at the Batang Kayan Regatta 2026 Postponement Ceremony at Lundu Townsquare here today.
The ceremony was officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Nancy said communities needed to be prepared before development reached their areas, noting there remained plenty of untapped potential in the constituency that should be developed before opportunities were taken up elsewhere.
