KOTA SAMARAHAN: The newly expanded Halaman Samarahan site is set to become a premier venue for regional events and community gatherings following recent infrastructure upgrades.
Deputy Minister Rural and Regional Development, Datuk Rubiah Wang, said the location, initially inspired by former Chief Minister, the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem, has undergone significant enhancements to accommodate major public and private sector activities.
Speaking at the site’s official launch and handover ceremony to the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) today, Rubiah highlighted that Phase 1 upgrades costing RM1.5 million are complete.
“With Phase 1 finished, the Samarahan Integrated Regional Development Agency (IRSDA) has officially handed over management to MPKS as the site owner to handle future planning and facility utilisation,” she said.
The project forms part of a total RM3.8-million allocation managed through IRSDA.
“Almost two-thirds of the area has been prepared. This central location will serve as an ideal space for government, private and NGO events while residents await the completion of Boulevard Samarahan,” she said.
To attract major national event organisers, Rubiah noted that essential infrastructure including direct power and water supplies, lighting and stage facilities will be integrated during Phase 2 to reduce operational costs for organisers.
To further improve the venue’s functionality, Rubiah announced that an additional RM500,000 has been secured to install basic amenities, including public toilets, solar lighting and decorative lights within the year.
Phase 2 of the project will introduce further facilities and a landmark structure, once additional funds are released under the rolling budget.
“Beyond formal events, our vision is to transform this into a vibrant recreational hub for local families, sports and community gatherings,” Rubiah added.
The venue recently hosted the ‘Jom Heboh’ carnival and is scheduled to host the Ministry’s GEMA (Gerakan Massa Masyarakat Desa) programme from August 21 to 23, alongside the upcoming ‘Sarawakku Sayang’ (SKS) programme for Kota Samarahan at the end of October.
