LUNDU: The handover of the newly built multipurpose hall in Kampung Pasir Tengah has been postponed after construction work by the contractor was found to be unsatisfactory.

Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang said quality cannot be compromised in any development project, stressing that improvements must be completed before the facility is officially handed over to the village.

He said the delay is necessary to ensure the safety and comfort of residents.

“The government remains committed to ensuring every development project delivers optimal benefits to the people and meets the required standards and specifications,” he said.

Billy said this during a site visit under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA), which also included the handover of several completed projects in the Lundu area on Wednesday (May 6).

During the visit, he also inspected the construction site of a new jetty in Kampung Selampit 2, which is expected to provide safer and more convenient access for inland fishermen in carrying out their daily activities.

He further reviewed the progress of a sports field upgrading project in Kampung Sebandi Hulu, which is expected to serve as a hub for sports, recreational and community activities, particularly for youths and children.

Billy also reminded that all government development projects must be continuously monitored to ensure they are completed on schedule and in line with the required specifications and quality standards for the benefit of the people.
