KUCHING: The Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, are scheduled to attend the naming and launch ceremony of Littoral Combat Ship 3 (LCS 3) at the Lumut Naval Shipyard in Perak next month.
The official invitation was conveyed during a courtesy call at the Governor’s official residence in Petra Jaya today by Western Fleet Commander of the Royal Malaysian Navy, Vice-Admiral Datuk Baharudin Wan Md Nor, who was accompanied by his wife, Datin Shafiqah Ismail.
The ceremony, scheduled for February 9, will be held at the Lumut Naval Shipyard, with Fauziah invited to officiate as the ship’s ‘Lady Sponsor’ – a role regarded in maritime tradition as the highest honour, symbolising blessings and prayers for the vessel and its crew.
Also present during the courtesy call were Lumut Naval Shipyard Chief Executive Officer, Azhar Jumaat, and his wife, Noor Afzan Md Noordin, along with representatives from the shipyard’s ceremonial secretariat.
During the meeting, Baharudin and Azhar briefed Wan Junaidi and Fauziah on the construction progress of LCS 3, including the latest developments of the project.
Wan Junaidi also shared his views on the importance of safeguarding Sarawak’s waters, particularly off Bintulu and Miri, in line with the country’s strategic defence and maritime security needs.
The Head of State and Toh Puan expressed their appreciation to the Royal Malaysian Navy and Lumut Naval Shipyard for the invitation, with Wan Junaidi also conveying his wishes for the ceremony to proceed smoothly.
