BETONG: Fifteen traffic summonses were issued during a joint motorcycle enforcement operation, with failure to wear a helmet emerging as the most common offence.
The operation was carried out by the District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division in collaboration with the Commercial Crime Investigation Division (CCID), Beladin police station and the Betong Road Transport Department (RTD) from 7.30 pm to 11 pm on Saturday (July 18).
Led by Betong Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Insp Mohd Hadi Mohd Yasin, the operation covered Jalan Pusa Beladin, Jalan Pusa-Sesang and the Batang Saribas 1 Bridge.
A total of 35 individuals and 30 motorcycles were inspected.
Police issued 15 summonses for various traffic offences, with 12 of them involving riders who failed to wear helmets.
Other offences detected included modified exhaust systems, defective vehicle accessories and riding without a valid licence.
Meanwhile, Betong RTD issued 19 notices comprising prohibition notices preventing the use of non-compliant vehicles and inspection notices to ensure motorcycles met the required regulations and technical specifications.
No arrests were made during the operation.
Betong police said the operation forms part of ongoing enforcement efforts to improve compliance with road traffic laws, reduce accident risks and enhance road safety for all road users in the district.
