SIMANGGANG: The Sri Aman Community Welfare and Health Committee (JAKKSA) has called on Malaysians to come forward in support of a nine-year-old boy, Christ Hendrik Daniel, who requires specialist medical treatment in Singapore.

The child from Kampung Sabu is currently battling chronic complications arising from cerebrospinal fluid leakage (CSF otorrhea) in his left ear, a condition that has also affected his spine.

According to JAKKSA chairman Gerald Empaling, the committee recently visited the family’s home to extend initial assistance as a gesture of community support and concern.

“We were deeply moved by Christ’s situation. Despite his young age and chronic condition, he remains strong and shows a deep sense of responsibility towards his family,” he said after the visit.

He added that the total cost of treatment at the Raffles Specialist Centre in Singapore is estimated at RM48,000.

Furthermore, Gerald urged more parties, including corporate organisations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and individuals, to step forward and contribute to ensure that Christ’s treatment can continue without financial constraints.

According to the family, Christ has undergone several surgeries at local hospitals since 2018 in an effort to manage his condition.

Due to the complexity of his current health issues, Sarawak General Hospital has referred him to Singapore for further specialised care.

The boy is expected to undergo follow-up procedures and be closely monitored by specialists in the near future.

His grandfather, Gerunsin Elie, said the family is now relying heavily on public generosity, as the cost of treatment is beyond their means.

“Any contribution would mean a great deal to us. We hope Christ can recover and live a normal life like other children his age,” he said.

Members of the public who wish to contribute or obtain further information may contact Gerunsin Elie at 011 1262 7330.

The appeal, organisers said, is not merely about financial aid but about giving renewed hope for the child’s future.
