BAU: Seven mountains regarded as ancestral heritage sites of the Bidayuh community here will continue to be protected and preserved to safeguard the ethnic group’s history and identity for future generations.

Transport Deputy Minister Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said the Sarawak government has channelled allocations through state funds to conserve historical sites linked to the origins of the Bidayuh community.

He said the mountains represent an important part of the community’s heritage and should remain protected as a legacy for future generations.

“We must continue preserving these places because they are part of our history and identity as a community,” he said.

He said this when officiating at the Birumu Gawea Ponyap Akat Kampung Jagoi Gunung (Plaman Bu’ow) 2026 celebration here on Wednesday (Jun 17).

Henry, who is the Tasik Biru assemblyman, said the Bidayuh community in Bau now has its own cultural landmark through the establishment of the Bidayuh Cultural Centre Bau (BCCB).

He described the centre as a symbol of ongoing efforts to preserve and promote Bidayuh culture and heritage.

He added that several community centres are also planned for Jagoi, Bratak, Skiat as well as Malay and Chinese villages in the area to strengthen community facilities and support local heritage preservation.

Meanwhile, Henry announced the approval of a RM150,000 Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) allocation for Kampung Jagoi Gunung under the 2028 programme.

The allocation will be used to upgrade the village multipurpose hall, including the construction of a parking area and retaining wall to improve convenience and safety for residents.
