MIRI: About 500 guests gathered at Pullman Hotel today (June 5) for a high tea ceremony in honour of the official birthday celebration of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at the state level.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib, as well as Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
The event kicked off with a vibrant welcoming dance by local ethnicities. It was followed by a prayer and the screening of a special video highlighting the coronation ceremony of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and his involvement in official state events.
The ceremony was symbolically launched with the cutting of the ‘pulut kuning’ cake by Taib himself.
One of the highlights of the event was the presentation of a specially composed song titled ‘Simfoni Tuanku’ by a talented Sarawakian musician, Sharzan Saberi.
The audience was treated to stage performances by local artists from Sarawak. This included a mesmerising ‘Seribu Rentak’ dance performance, culminating in the grand finale, the ‘Daulat Tuanku’ performance.
Among the distinguished guests in attendance were Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration, and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala, and former Deputy Chief Minister of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri George Chan Hong Nam.
