SIBU: The Sarawak International Volleyball Invitation (SIVI) 2026 serves up action from July 4 to 7, with Hong Kong and Indonesia among the visiting challengers.
The women’s tournament will be held at the Sibu Volleyball Indoor Stadium, featuring five competitive teams from Malaysia and abroad in a round-robin format before the final on July 7.
The participating teams are Spring Fox Selangor, Sarawak SUKMA, NOVA Volleyball Club (Sarawak), Victory Volleyball Club (Hong Kong) and J Team Volleyball Club (Indonesia).
Sarawak Volleyball Association’s Secretary, Stephanie Law, said the SUKMA Sarawak squad is the only team made up entirely of local players and is not allowed to field imported players.
Law, who is also the team manager for the SUKMA women’s team, said the tournament serves as part of the team’s preparation for the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Selangor next month.
“So far, the SUKMA side has shown encouraging progress, with team chemistry and on-court understanding improving as the squad continues its build-up,” she told Sarawak Tribune today.
Spring Fox Selangor and SUKMA Sarawak will kick off the competition in the opening round-robin match at 10:00 am on July 4.
Meanwhile, Law said the foreign-based teams only arrived in Sibu on Tuesday (June 30) and are still adapting, with some marking their first training session ahead of the competition.
A group of SUKMA and Sarawak sports officials, coaches and technical advisors also visited the tournament venue ahead of the four-day event.
Among those present were SUKMA men’s team manager, Chin Hing Ka; Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS) Sports Development Officer, Lau Sie Long; and Sarawak women’s head coach, Angela Tang.
Also present were Michi Toshima, technical adviser for SUKMA men and women from Japan; Sanong Kulchim, technical adviser from Thailand; and SUKMA men’s head coach, Pang Sii Chuong.
