DEAR Readers and Friends,
As we step into the fourth week of April, I extend my warmest greetings to you all. The vibrancy of spring surrounds us, as does the joyful light of Easter.
April is traditionally associated with the colour yellow, a hue that radiates warmth, positivity, and renewal.
It is especially meaningful to me as we are now in the third week of Easter – a season that reflects hope, resurrection, and the promise of new beginnings.
Four weeks ago, my life was irrevocably altered. I received a solemn diagnosis that felt like a death sentence, prompting me to ask my family to bring me home, just in case I might pass away in a foreign land in Beijing, China.
It was a harrowing moment, to be sure, sparking a whirlwind of emotions – fear, sorrow, and an overwhelming sense of helplessness among my loved ones.
Yet here I stand today, beyond grateful for the miracle that has been bestowed upon me.
God’s grace has shone through the darkness, reminding me of His merciful love.
Dear friends and readers, yellow, the colour of sunshine and warmth, evokes feelings of happiness, energy, and vitality. It is a hue that can awaken the senses and uplift the spirit.
As I reflect on the essence of yellow, I am drawn to connect it to our body, mind, and soul – the three pillars of our being that make us whole.
It warms me to think of how yellow embodies the vibrancy of life in all these aspects.
Just as the sun provides light and nourishment to the earth, so too can yellow nurture our physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual senses.
Physical sense – Yellow is often considered energising and invigorating. Like sunflowers turning towards the sun, our bodies are drawn to the vitality associated with this colour.
Yellow can stimulate metabolism and encourage proactive steps towards physical wellbeing. It may also lift mood, inspire exercise, and foster a sense of wellness.
As we move into longer days of sunshine, let us embrace the physical rejuvenation that yellow brings.
Emotional sense – Emotionally, yellow symbolises joy and optimism. It reminds us of the happiness found in simple pleasures, such as laughter with friends or the warmth of a loved one’s smile.
At the same time, emotions are complex; while yellow uplifts, it can also serve as a gentle reminder to maintain balance within ourselves.
May each of you find your days filled with joy, allowing the hue of yellow to brighten your emotional landscape, especially in this season of renewal.
Intellectual sense – Intellectually, yellow signifies enlightenment and wisdom. I am reminded of Proverbs 2:6: “For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.”
Yellow can stimulate mental activity, enhancing focus, creativity, and clarity of thought.
As we navigate life’s challenges, I wish all readers the opportunity to seek knowledge and wisdom, illuminating their intellect with bright strokes of yellow.
Spiritual sense – Spiritually, yellow invites us to bask in the warmth of faith and hope.
Easter symbolises the resurrection of Christ – a profound moment of renewal.
I am reminded of Matthew 28:5–6: “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; He has risen, just as He said.”
The resurrection story embodies hope – renewal in life, fresh beginnings, and faith that inspires us to move forward.
In addition, scientific studies have shown that yellow can enhance attention and concentration, improve mental performance, and positively influence emotions.
This highlights the importance of being mindful of our surroundings and embracing colours that support healing and wellbeing.
As I write this from my hospital room, I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude. It has been 56 days away from the comforts of home – a period often filled with longing.
Yet, through the lens of yellow, I am reminded of my journey towards healing and recovery.
While I miss the physical presence of home dearly, the warmth of God’s presence fills my room, making my days feel illuminated.
Homesickness is now outweighed by the deeper longing to be surrounded by the love of family and friends.
Each day apart has reaffirmed the strength of bonds that transcend distance and time.
Yellow, to me, symbolises the hope and positivity drawn from those connections, lighting my path even when the journey feels arduous.
My heartfelt gratitude goes to all of you – my loved ones, friends, and readers – who have shown unwavering support during this challenging time.
Your messages, prayers, and kindness have formed a warm cocoon that sustains me. This sense of community reflects the essence of yellow: vibrant, nurturing, and full of life.
As we embrace this beautiful month of April, let us collectively breathe in the spirit of yellow – symbolising joy, healing, enlightenment, and spiritual renewal.
May your physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual senses be in harmony, embodying resilience much like the joy and promise of Easter.
Let us move forward not merely existing, but thriving in life’s full colour.
In closing, I leave you with this quote: “April, with its promise of new beginnings, is a reminder that the light of joy and renewal shines just as brightly as the sun’s warm rays.”
Thank you for being part of my journey.
With heartfelt gratitude, Esther.
