KUCHING: A drainage upgrade has been proposed for Jalan Hui Sing Lorong 5/2 and Lorong 5/4 under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) 2027 following complaints over deteriorating infrastructure.

In a statement, Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap Yau Sin said he recently conducted a site visit with officers from Kuching South City Council (MBKS) to inspect the proposed project site.

“Residents have highlighted the deteriorating condition of the back lane and drains in this area.

“I have therefore requested MBKS officers to assess the situation on site so that the necessary upgrading works can be planned and implemented systematically,” he said.

He said the visit was carried out after residents raised concerns about the condition of the back lane and existing drainage system, which they said had affected environmental hygiene, water flow and long-term maintenance.

According to Yap, the proposed upgrade forms part of ongoing efforts to improve public infrastructure and living conditions for residents in Kota Sentosa.

He said proper drainage infrastructure plays an important role in preventing water stagnation, reducing the risk of flooding and maintaining a clean and safe environment for the community.

Yap said he would continue working closely with the relevant authorities to address issues affecting residents based on the urgency and severity of each matter raised.

He noted that infrastructure improvements require careful planning, prioritisation and coordination with implementing agencies to ensure effective and sustainable outcomes.

He also reaffirmed his commitment to engaging with residents, local councils and relevant agencies to identify infrastructure needs across Kota Sentosa and ensure development remains responsive to community needs.
