BINTULU: Human values should always take precedence in a community, surpassing wealth and possessions, asserted Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming.
According to him, while material aid such as daily necessities is important, what matters more is the spirit of togetherness and genuine concern for the less fortunate.
“Aid is not solely about the monetary or material value of what is given. What holds greater meaning is the sense of solidarity, empathy and love for one another,” he said.
Pang was speaking during a food basket distribution programme held in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha organised by the Tanjong Batu State Constituency Service Centre in collaboration with Kelab Kembara dan Rekreasi Bintulu.
The event took place at the Kampung Assyakirin Phase 3 Community Hall today.
Pang emphasised that compassion for those in need must become a continuous cultural practice, especially in a multiracial and multi-religious society.
He added that in the current post-pandemic economic climate, the spirit of humanity must be nurtured and applied in daily life.
“I urge all levels of society to continue upholding humanitarian values and not rely solely on material contributions when helping those in need,” he said.
A total of 174 food baskets containing essential items such as rice, cooking oil, flour and dried food were distributed to underprivileged families in the Tanjong Batu area, covering Kampung Assyakirin Phases 1, 2, and 3, Kampung Jabai, and Taman Lucky Tower.
