KUCHING: The Malaysian branch of Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) commemorated the 11th Anniversary of the HWPL World Peace Summit with a regional gathering here, themed “Uniting for Peace and Fulfilling Humanity’s Duty Together.”
The event, held in conjunction with the main commemorative summit in Cheongju, South Korea, brought together about 150 participants representing a diverse range of organisations, including the Brahma Kumaris Foundation, Sarawak Eco Warriors, i-CATS University Student Representative Council, Kelab Belia Prihatin Bandar Kuching (KBPBK), Swinburne Green Club, Salvation Army Kuching, and the Kuching Autistic Association, alongside local teachers, students, and youth advocates.
In his welcoming remarks, Ning Bong, chief branch manager of HWPL Malaysia, underscored the importance of translating the dream of peace into tangible action.
“Many people feel that world peace is something idealistic, but dreams can become realities if we work toward them.
“In Malaysia, we are engaging with communities through volunteer projects and peace education. Our work for peace is only beginning, and we hope everyone can be part of it.”
Meanwhile, Balachandran Annamalai, vice branch manager of HWPL Malaysia, highlighted the power of unity in transcending differences.
“It doesn’t matter the colour, the religion, or who someone is.
“When a person needs help, we must be there. When we support one another, regardless of differences, we can walk boldly and uplift those around us.”
The event featured exhibition booths showcasing HWPL’s global peace initiatives and a moving poetry silat performance, inspiring reflection on the values of empathy and coexistence in everyday life.
Adding to the celebration’s significance, Deputy National Unity Minister Senator Saraswathy Kandasami extended a video message of congratulations, commending HWPL’s sustained efforts in nurturing peace and harmony across Malaysia’s multicultural society.
Since its inaugural World Peace Summit in 2014, HWPL has grown into a global peace movement with over 560,000 members in 170 countries, advocating for international peace law, interfaith harmony, and citizen participation.
Looking ahead, HWPL Malaysia plans to expand its volunteering programmes, youth peace camps, and educational outreach activities.
The organisation encourages more Malaysians to join in cultivating a lasting culture of peace.
