KUCHING: i-CATS University College is expanding its academic footprint to the Tropics City Campus as part of efforts to increase teaching capacity and accommodate its growing student population.

In a Facebook post, i-CATS said the expansion reflects its continued commitment to providing accessible, industry-relevant and future-ready education through a dual-campus model.

“Our Main Campus at Jalan Stampin Timur will continue to house programmes under the Faculty of Energy Transition, Faculty of Aerospace Engineering, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, Faculty of Agrotechnology & Applied Sciences, Centre for Foundation & Preparatory Studies, and Centre for Knowledge Advancement and Languages.

“Meanwhile, our new Tropics City Campus will be home to the Faculty of Education, Faculty of Tourism & Hospitality, Faculty of Computing & Software Engineering, and Faculty of Economics, Business & Accounting,” it said.

The university college said the expansion would further strengthen its academic ecosystem while enhancing learning opportunities for students across various disciplines.

Previously, Vice-Chancellor Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr Kadim Suaidi said the expansion was necessary to accommodate the institution’s rapid growth in academic programmes and student enrolment.

“We need to look at how we can increase our capacity, especially in terms of learning space, in view of the expanding number of programmes and the increasing enrolment at i-CATS,” he said during the Industry-University Research & Innovation Investment Dialogue 2026 held recently.

Kadim said that student enrolment has grown significantly to about 2,500 this year, compared with just over 1,000 previously, with the university targeting 3,000 students by the end of the year.
