i-CATS, NAICO collaborate to strengthen aerospace industry

KUCHING: Head of State (TYT), Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, received a delegation from the National Aerospace Industry Corporation (NAICO) and i-CATS University College Malaysia to discuss strengthening Sarawak’s aerospace industry.

The visit, held at Astana Sarawak, Petra Jaya today, focused on sharing NAICO’s role in two major aerospace sectors: Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) and Aeromanufacturing.

Also shared was information on the collaborative initiatives between NAICO and i-CATS in building a framework with industry stakeholders, including efforts to transfer real-world knowledge into the learning system so that students are exposed to the latest advancements in aircraft systems and satellite engineering.

The NAICO delegation was led by Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Ts Dr Shamsul Kamar Abu Samah, accompanied by Mohd Sazali Mohamed Amin.

Representatives from i-CATS included Vice-Chancellor Prof. Emeritus Datuk Ts Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi, Prof. Ir Dr Shuhaimi Mansor, Dr Nurul Zubaidah Zaki, and Abdul Qaiyum Alidin.

During the session, Wan Junaidi and Fauziah were also informed that i-CATS is actively building capacity in several key aerospace development areas, including systems engineering, satellites, aircraft design, avionics, satellite technology, and aerospace systems integration.

He expressed appreciation for these initiatives and emphasised that i-CATS’ role is crucial in strengthening the aerospace industry in Sarawak.

He also hoped that efforts to establish Sarawak as a major aerospace industry hub in Borneo will become a reality for the benefit of Sarawak’s youth and Malaysians in general.

Wan Junaidi stressed that this initiative aligns with the aspirations of the Sarawak government to drive advancement in technology and engineering, in line with the state’s vision.
