KUCHING: This year’s International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (IDECS25), scheduled for Oct 22 to 23 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here, will introduce a pioneering approach to climate accountability, setting a new standard for sustainable event management in the region.
Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) CEO Datuk Ir Ts Sudarnoto Osman announced during his keynote address at the “AI Meets Sustainability: Driving Impact Through Digitalisation” forum held at the Sheraton Hotel on Tuesday (June 10).
“As a result of what we’ve learned, IDECS25 will go further than ever before, implementing smarter logistics, promoting greener travel, using energy-efficient venues, and ensuring procurement is traceable and responsible.”
This initiative stems from the tangible lessons of IDECS2024, where a comprehensive sustainability report, developed in collaboration with local firm Carbon GPT, revealed a total carbon footprint of 337,495 kg CO2e, with Scope 3 emissions accounting for more than 85 per cent.
“Rather than treating this as a mere statistic, it became a blueprint for institutional change.
“We’re not just measuring emissions. We’re redesigning how major events are planned and delivered.
“The IDECS is no longer just a conference; it’s a model for environmental leadership.”
IDECS25 is expected to be a game-changer in how digital economy forums align with global climate goals.
It will showcase how artificial intelligence (AI), digital infrastructure, and climate intelligence can be integrated into everyday operations to generate systemic impact.
“We want Sarawak’s digital transformation to be green by design, inclusive by default, and accountable by data,” Sudarnoto added.
The move reflects Sarawak’s broader ambition to become a regional hub for AI and green innovation, anchored by the upcoming AI and Green Innovation Hub.
