KUCHING: An alleged identity theft case linked to a hacked email account involving AeroBig Day is now under police attention after fraudulent emails and suspicious online loan-related activities were reportedly carried out using stolen credentials.
According to a statement by AeroBig Day founder Jefferey Ngui, the cyber intrusion was first detected last Thursday and also involved attempts to gain access to his personal Facebook account.
He said investigations found that the hacker had misused the identity of one of the team’s committee members as well as his personal phone number.
The compromised email accounts were allegedly used to send fraudulent emails to various online loan platforms.
“Since yesterday, I have personally received countless unknown calls, WhatsApp messages offering loans and a flood of SMS messages requesting OTP verification codes,” he said.
Ngui strongly condemned the hacking and identity theft attempt, describing it as a serious criminal act.
He said he and his team would not tolerate such actions and have lodged a police report over the matter.
Ngui also advised the public to remain cautious if they receive suspicious emails from AeroBig Day email addresses or messages claiming to be connected to him.
“Please ignore such emails because they are not from us,” he stressed.
He added that his team is committed to resolving the matter as soon as possible and will cooperate fully with the authorities in the investigation.
