KUCHING: The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), Sarawak Branch, paid a formal courtesy visit to Deputy Premier and Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex here today.

The nine-member delegation was led by IEM Sarawak Branch chairman, Ir Dr Angelia Liew San Chuin, accompanied by committee representatives from the 2025/2026 session.

The visit served to brief the deputy premier on the branch’s programmes, achievements and strategic initiatives for the current term.

The committee also updated him on major upcoming events, including the IEM Engineer’s Run 2025 and the IEM Sarawak Annual Dinner 2025.

During the engagement, IEM Sarawak extended an official invitation to Dr Sim to attend the IEM Engineer’s Run 2025 as guest of honour.

Dr Sim discusses the Building (Amendment) Bill 2025 with the committee.

The run, themed “Engineering Green Legacies”, will take place on Nov 30, 2025 at the PETROS Multifuel Station, Batu Kawa, featuring 1,750 runners competing in the 3km, 5km and 10km categories, marking one of the largest participation numbers since the run began in 2015.

Over the past decade, the Engineer’s Run has grown from a small gathering of runners into a meaningful community-driven initiative that brings together engineers, families, industries, government agencies and the public in a healthy and inspiring environment.

The meeting also saw an in-depth discussion on the recently passed Building (Amendment) Bill 2025, which aims to modernise Sarawak’s building regulatory framework, enhance sustainability standards, and introduce new green building requirements.

Dr Sim emphasised that Sarawak is moving decisively towards a greener, more resilient future and commended engineers for their pivotal role in nation-building and sustainable development.

IEM Sarawak Branch expressed its sincere appreciation to the deputy premier for his time, support, and continued commitment to the engineering profession.

Meanwhile, runners participating in the inaugural Batu Kawa edition of the Engineer’s Run are advised that flag-off times are as follows: 10km (6 am), 5km (6.30 am) and 3km (6.45 am).
