KUCHING: The Sarawak Road Transport Department (RTD) has issued a stern warning to Class B2 motorcycle licence holders involved in illegal racing, including the possibility of having their licences revoked.

Sarawak Road Transport Department (RTD) director Norizan Jili said the department would not compromise on such activities as road safety remained a priority.

“I urge those who have obtained their B2 licences legally to appreciate their licences and use them properly.

“If we find that they are involved in illegal racing, their licences will be revoked and this is our promise.

“The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will also work with RTD and provide RTD with the names of individuals involved in illegal racing. Therefore, we will ensure that they will not be able to obtain a B2 licence again,” he said.

He said this during the Majlis Penyerahan Program Bantuan Lesen Memandu Kelas B2 Tahun 2026 Anjuran Parlimen P193 Santubong officiated by Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri at Wisma SABATI here on Saturday.

He added that the matter was important as statistics from the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) showed that motorcycle riders accounted for 60 per cent of road accident fatalities in 2024.

“I am not trying to frighten you, but motorcyclists are actually very exposed to various dangers because these vehicles do not have protective features like cars.

“So, I urge those who have legally obtained their B2 licences to comply with road laws as best as possible,” he added.

Meanwhile, when met, Norizan stressed that the trend of using motorcycle registration numbers that did not comply with regulations appeared to be increasing and was worrying.

He said RTD was also working with PDRM to monitor the matter and would take firm action without compromise against anyone committing such offences.

He added that the department would work with the PDRM to monitor such offences and would seize motorcycles found with deliberately concealed or improper number plates.

“We can see that this trend appears to be increasing and is very unhealthy.

“There will be no compromise on these offences. If we conduct a roadblock and find those who violate the relevant regulations, we will seize the motorcycles,” he stressed.

Overall, under the Class B2 Driving Licence Assistance Programme organised by parliamentary constituencies and state constituencies, a total of 11,936 licences were issued in 2024, followed by 14,593 licences in 2025, while 5,926 licences have been issued as of Aug 22, 2026.
