KUCHING: Forty-eight foreigners ended up in custody as enforcement officers conducted a large-scale operation across the district, targeting undocumented workers and immigration violations.
Twenty-eight officers and personnel from Kuching Immigration Enforcement Division carried out inspections on Tuesday (Jan 6) around Kuching City Mall commercial centre, Desa Ilmu business area, as well as several eateries at Matang Hub.
These premises were suspected of employing foreign workers without valid travel documents or permits.
A total of 96 individuals were screened during the operation, with 48 arrested for various immigration offences.
Those detained were taken to the Immigration Office for further investigation under the Immigration Act 1959/63.
The Sarawak Immigration Department said enforcement operations will continue from time to time to ensure compliance with immigration laws and to safeguard public order and security.
