Inaugural ‘Niti Daun’ parade strengthens Kanowit’s cultural identity, unity

KANOWIT: The inaugural ‘Niti Daun’ parade brought together about 1,000 participants and thousands of visitors, a showcase of diverse cultural identity and the spirit of unity in conjunction with the Kanowit Cultural Festival (KCF) 2026.

The inaugural parade involved 35 contingents from various backgrounds, including government departments, private agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), schools and local communities.

The parade began at the Kanowit District Office and ended at the Kanowit Riverfront where the KCF 2026’s Main Stage was located.

Minister of National Unity, who is also Kanowit Member of Parliament, Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, led the procession together with Ngemah assemblyman, Anyi Jana, and Machan assemblyman, Allan Siden Gramong.

Also present were Kanowit District Officer, Cerisologo Sabut, as organising chairman and Temenggong Stanley Geramong Bandar.

Throughout the parade route, members of the public crowded the town area to witness the diverse cultural showcases presented through traditional attire, cultural dances and creative decorations by each contingent.

The atmosphere was further enlivened by traditional musical performances, adding vibrancy to the event while highlighting the unique heritage of the various ethnic communities in the district.

The inaugural organisation of the event not only enlivened the festival, but was also seen as an important platform to promote local cultural heritage and strengthen harmony among Sarawak’s multi-racial communities.
