BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The implementation of the Rimbunan Kaseh (RK) Sundar Lawas Project reflects the Sarawak government’s commitment to balanced, inclusive and high-impact economic development, especially in uplifting rural communities across the state.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, said the project, which falls under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), will serve as a key driver of local economic growth in Lawas, while creating more opportunities for community involvement in modern and technology-based agricultural activities.

“We want to see rural communities become part of the development mainstream.

“Through projects like this, we are not only boosting economic output but also transforming people’s lifestyles through modern and sustainable agricultural approaches,” he said during the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signing ceremony for the project, held at the Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office in Brunei Darussalam (STATOB) today (Oct 28).

The MoA, signed between LCDA Agri Business Sdn Bhd and Sahamada Corporation Sdn Bhd, was witnessed by Awang Tengah along with Brunei Darussalam’s Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Datuk Seri Setia Dr Abdul Manaf Metussin.

Awang Tengah, who is also the Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment emphasised that private sector participation is vital to ensure the full development of the RK Sundar Project.

He added that the Sarawak government plays the role of providing clear policies and facilitating implementation, while the private sector should serve as the main driving force of development.

“As for this project, the infrastructure is already in place. I have been involved since the early planning stages, and to expand it further, private sector involvement is essential.

“I hope this project succeeds, and I am confident it will have a positive impact on the community,” he stressed.
