KUCHING: The Sarawak Indian Women’s Association (SIWA) has taken a major step into the digital era with the launch of its official website to strengthen outreach, enhance transparency and expand opportunities for Indian women across the state.
Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, who officiated the launch, said having a trusted and verified online presence is no longer optional in today’s fast-moving digital landscape.
“A website is the focal point for sharing accurate information, engaging stakeholders and protecting the public from misinformation and scams,” she said during the launch ceremony at Riverside Majestic Hotel here on Sunday.
Nancy noted that the initiative aligns with the National Women’s Policy and the Women’s Development Action Plan 2025–2030, which emphasise digital literacy, entrepreneurship and greater participation of women in the modern economy.

“When used responsibly and strategically, technology can open doors to new opportunities and wider markets for women,” she added.
She also commended SIWA for strengthening its institutional credibility through digitalisation after more than two decades of service to the community.
“With more than 20 years of service, your programmes, achievements and community stories deserve to be documented and made accessible.
“This transparency builds trust, strengthens partnerships and opens the door for greater collaboration,” she said.
Nancy also praised SIWA’s move towards intellectual property and knowledge-based products, describing it as a forward-thinking strategy that could generate sustainable income amid rising costs.
“When organisations become more self-reliant, they not only support themselves but also help the government extend assistance to other emerging groups,” she said.
Such initiatives contribute to a healthy ecosystem where communities empower themselves while working hand in hand with the government, she added.
SIWA President Penghulu Paliani Samba Bilaidom @ Lucy Lingam said the website is not just a portal for information but a strategic asset designed to generate value and visibility for the association.
“It is our firm belief that the revenue and stability gained from our intellectual property will one day provide us with the means to move into ‘real property.’
“We see a future where SIWA has its own physical home, a space to house our offices and a hub that continues to generate income to support our mission,” she said.
Over the years, SIWA has played an active role in improving the welfare, skills and confidence of Indian women in Sarawak through various programmes and community initiatives.
