SIBU: A 29-year-old Indonesian man was fined a total of RM4,000 by the Magistrates’ Court here on Monday (July 6) after pleading guilty to two counts of voluntarily causing hurt to his female companion in separate incidents that occurred just days apart.
The accused identified as only Suriyadi admitted to both charges before Magistrate Romario Jonoi, who imposed a fine of RM2,000 for each offence, with four months’ imprisonment in default of payment for each count.
According to the charge sheets, the first incident took place at about 11pm on June 28 at a house along Jalan Permai Barat 1, where the accused assaulted the victim, 31, striking her right eyebrow, right calf and left thigh, causing bruises.
The second offence occurred at approximately 9.30pm on July 1 at the same location, when the accused slapped the victim on the right cheek.
Both offences were framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.
According to facts of the case, at about 11pm on June 28, at the scene, while the complainant was resting with her child, suddenly her boyfriend, identified as the accused, went berserk and punched the complainant in the face with his hands, kicked her thigh and leg with his foot, and accusing her of having relationship with another man at her place of work.
The complainant suffered injuries to her right eyebrow, which required eight stitches, bruises on her left thigh and bruises on her right calf.
On July 1 at about 9.30pm, at the same place, the complainant was slapped on the left cheek and caused her to feel pain.
She later proceeded to the police station to lodge a report for further action.
On the following day at about 3.25am, a team of police led by ASP Mohd Aszmei Ahmad arrested the accused at his place of stay.
The case was prosecuted by DPP Nuralisa Natasha Nazrulzam while the accused, unrepresented by legal counsel, opted to pay the fine.
