LONDON: The Integrated Silicon Longhouse is paving the way for global investment in the semiconductor and high-tech sectors.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the initiative, a comprehensive ecosystem bringing together government, industry, academia, and international partners under one framework, is not merely symbolic but a concrete plan for Sarawak to compete on the global stage.
“In Sarawak, the longhouse is not just a place to live, it is a symbol of cooperation and community strength.
“In the same way, the Integrated Silicon Longhouse will bring together various parties to drive innovation and investment in the semiconductor industry,” he said.
He said this in his keynote address titled ‘Building the Integrated Silicon Longhouse: Sarawak Blueprint to Accelerate Global Investment & Industry Impact’ here on Wednesday.

He said the move aligns with the development of the Samajaya Free Industrial Zone, a high-tech industrial area that currently houses multinational companies such as X-FAB and Melexis.
He added the latest projects include the RM3 billion expansion of X-FAB’s plant and Melexis’ largest wafer testing site in Kuching.
At the same time, he also stressed that Sarawak is capable of supporting this industry with clean and stable renewable energy, as well as the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which stresses social and economic balance.
With this initiative, he hopes to attract high-tech investments, strengthen local talent, and expand the semiconductor value chain in Southeast Asia.
