SARIKEI: Strengthening integrity values within society remains essential to combating corruption and abuse of power and ensuring Sarawak’s development proceeds transparently, accountably and sustainably.
Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities, Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii, said the Sarawak Integrity Tour Programme 2026 served as a strategic platform to nurture a principled and ethical society in line with the aspirations of the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).
Huang, who is also Sarikei Member of Parliament and Repok assemblyman, said such initiatives not only raise awareness but also encourage communities to reject corruption and uphold trust and responsibility in daily conduct.
He said this when officiating at the programme held at Dewan Suarah Sarikei on Friday.
Huang stressed that integrity must begin at the individual level, noting that a casual attitude towards seemingly minor matters could lead to serious consequences in the future.
“Attitudes such as ‘it does not matter’ and ‘everyone does it’ should not be used as justification because they can form negative norms that undermine public trust,” he said.
He added that integrity is reflected through speaking the truth, fulfilling entrusted responsibilities and doing what is right even without supervision.
In Sarawak’s multi-ethnic society, he said integrity plays a crucial role in fostering trust, harmony and unity among communities.
He called on all parties to make integrity a shared responsibility starting from individuals and families to the wider community, adding that programme participants should translate its messages into daily practice to help ensure the state’s continued progress and prosperity.
